PanchayatA Panchayat is a body of elected representatives responsible for managing the administrative affairs of Panchayati Raj Institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the primary committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and carries out day-to-day administration.The key components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. The President chairs the meetings and oversees the overall activities of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Formed to streamline the decision-making process of the Panchayat for matters like finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Edavaka Grama Panchayat is situated in the Mananthavady Block of Mananthavady Taluk in Wayanad district. Spread across the villages of Nallurnad and Edavaka, the Panchayat covers an area of 47.26 square kilometres. This Panchayat consists of 19 wards. It is bounded on the north by the Mananthavady River, Thavinjal and Mananthavady Panchayats, on the east by Panamaram Panchayat, on the south by Vellamunda Panchayat, and on the west by Thondernad Panchayat. The Panchayat came into existence in 1962. From 1962 until January 1964, the administration was under a Special Officer. In 1964, the first elected governing body assumed office.
